The AI technology sector has exploded as one of the most valued and powerful markets in the world, but what does that mean for the everyday user? One effect of industrial technology being pushed forward is innovations in the commercial sector. With AI, many consumer services are being rolled out to showcase the power and convenience it can bring. One of those services leans on AIs self-learning capabilities to help solve a growing social trend of loneliness. This is where we get AI Chatbots. And the smartest users upgraded those services into the current iteration of AI Roleplay.

What Is AI Roleplay?

Have you ever asked Google a question? Used the search function to talk to it as if you would ask a person something to find out an answer? Google isn’t built to handle requests that way. AI chat bots like ChatGPT and other LLMs (Large Language Models) handle requests in the way we normally would ask with our own words. It breaks down proper sentences into syntaxes and uses those to perform search functions.

If the AI has been refined enough and given a wide array of parameters of how it should handle specific topics, you might not even know at first that it isn’t a real person. How Did It Take Off?

Right now there are dozens of services that offer realistic or detailed AI Roleplay chat rooms where you can engage with a bot that is trained specifically for you. These are instances of a larger model, a specific version of it that does not access information from other users. It is meeting you for the first time, with only the past it was programmed to simulate. It can be your friend, your confidante, or even someone more intimate.

Many of these services are free, which instantly adds to their widespread adoption, but there is something more to it than that. For most people, it’s a distraction. Instead of waiting to chat with a busy friend, people who yearn for immediate social contact can turn on a chatbot with a single swipe on their phone and start a conversation. The bot talks back, engages, and builds up a database of memories to pull from. Something last week may be relevant and the bot will remember it appropriately.

Experts are still studying the "loneliness epidemic”, a lingering after effect of the pandemic lockdowns that began in 2020. As a result, many people went for months or even years without the ability to socialize as they used to. AI Roleplay has found a steady audience with women. Much like romance novels, there’s an appeal to the deep, moody conversations with a mysterious stranger that can’t be simulated in real life. Roleplay bots can simulate any romance novel hunk or misunderstood villain and give empowerment to their human partners through indulgent, rewarding conversations. All finely tuned to be fun, but still safe, to enjoy. It may be fake, but sweet nothings can still be sweet enough to tickle the tongue.

Time to Catch the Wave

AI is here and there’s no going back. The improvement of LLMs and core AI modules have improved to the point where even industrial experts have a hard time keeping up with them. Those explosive improvements have moved to the consumer side faster than any other industry in history. We are getting close to the best possible versions of this technology for our own usage within days of new rollouts.

We’ve come a long, long way from the word program paperclip or the downloadable desktop buddies. And it’s only getting better. You should learn how to talk to AI, it may end up being more fun than talking to people.
